The song of a King
Two stories follow this song. I'm not exactly sure which one is true but I believe the second one to be the more correct of the two.
First one is that King George hired a musician to write this for him about Anna Boyle <--- spellin ???
Second story I heard was that a King (Probably King George) sent for a young woman. She was known mostly for her one beautiful green dress.
His servants came to her with a chest full of treasure. Still she refused to go. They decided to chain her to the chest and bring her back forcefully. She lived on a far edge of a great lake, so they had to return with her by boat. Half way across the lake she said to them that she would take herself and the kings treasure but he would never have her.
She tossed the chest over with her leg chained to it and drowned in the lake.
Upon their return the servants explained to the king what had happened.
He was so hurt by this that he retreated to his own quarters and wrote this song about her in memory of her beauty.
All this king really ever knew about her was how beautiful she looked wearing that one green dress..... "Green Sleeves"
