Feed the Wealthy, "Please wont you help me help them?".

When I was a kid growing up in the early 70's times were tough but none more so than it was on the wealthiest of us. Those poor-poor people never learned the basics. They didn't know how to cook, clean or even in any way care for themselves. Sure they could hire cooks and maids to assist in some of their basic needs, but think about it for a moment. Who in his right mind would want some unkempt, uneducated, badly dressed piece of trailer park trash or some low life street drog messing around with your fine tableware, jewelry or fancy suits?.

Those folks had it rough and we knew it. We joined together and created support groups for them. Of course they never attended any of our meetings. We didn't care. We were doing this to help them, not for self gratification or public esteem.

Some of the projects were just silly little things like fancy slogans like "F.T.W." which meant Feed the wealthy. The middle finger gesture was adopted into use by us too. When we saw them suffering we would raise out middle finger up to them as a gesture that we were one with their plight and here for them, also to let them know that they were not left un-noticed by us and we were here to help them "giving it all to them", so to speak.

We even did other things too. We both worked at and supported fast food chains that they owned. We saw that as a way of offering them a quick meal for under a buck without having to deal with someone having to enter their homes and make a mess cooking for them there. We also organized street clean-ups. Almost every warm weekend a group of us would get together and clean up their tossed out sandwich wrappers, coffee cups and other waste products that they would toss out the window when they were done. It was all understood by us because who in hell would want to see a brand new Jag or a fancy new Beamer sittin out in front of an office building all cluttered up with Burger King trash like some 15 year old Chevy?

Yes, we did our best to help feed those poor unfortunate wealthy people with full understanding that they could not do it for themselves and we cleaned up after them out of the kindness of our collaborative consciousness and combined hearts.

I am older now and can't flip a burger no more, can't even bend over often to pick up discarded trash anymore. Won't you please do your part to assist me in this long ongoing effort to help them in other ways. Maybe if I was wealthy too I could get an education, buy a nice suit, get a haircut and help them with influence. I think I can and with your small donation ($50 to whatever) a week each, I could become wealthy too and have that education and suit and I could work with them one-on-one to teach at least a few how to be more self supportive towards their own needs.

I know this is a serious matter and I know you want more information and I could go on and on about this forever but just think. With your donation of "just" $50 you will receive a picture of me and a thanx letter in a cheap used suit. If you donate $100 I'll send you absolutely free of charge (except shipping & handling) a Better picture of me in a better suit and an almost full page Thank You letter, or with your donation of only $250 a week I'll send you a picture of me in a fancy brand new suit and nice haircut and a really-really nice Thank You Letter (WAY BETTER THEN THE ONES I SEND TO THOSE CHEAPSKATES). Just remember the old saying "The more you give, the more you get." or "You first have to give to receive"

Please send all donations directly in email, no checks, money orders, marked bills or credit cards to FunkingDave@gmail.com and expect an 8 to 12 week wait for reply.

Thank you very much for your generous donation in advance,
Funk

Sister Vanilla & The Jesus and Mary Chain

It took me so long to find this version of this song "Moe Tucker". It's a Jesus & and Mary Chain track and I like both versions, just that with Sister Vanilla it seems much more authenticated and a little more realistic. Can't find her version on vid so I posted the audio track. I also included another favorite of mine from The Velvet Underground called After Hours (otherwise known as If you close the door), because they fit well together.

Next will be the audio tracks, then an interview with Sister Vanilla that I found on Parasites & Sycophants (the name of the site is the link to it) and then will be the Jesus and Mary Chain version of Moe Tucker done without Sister Vanilla

Interview with Sister Vanilla from [here] again:

Sister Vanilla AKA Linda Reid has just released the long awaited “Little Pop Rock” (Chemikal Underground, UK) featuring her famous brothers Jim and William Reid of The Jesus And Mary Chain – with longtime JAMC/Freeheat guitarist Ben Lurie, and Stephen Pastel.
P&S: Linda, thanks for taking the time to speak with us, we really appreciate it!
For those out there who maybe don’t know, how did the name “Sister Vanilla”come to be?
LR: It was William’s idea. He said I have the palest skin he’s ever seen – same colour as vanilla. and i’m his sister. So Sister Vanilla.

P&S: In researching information, you stated in an interview with Trev of LostMusic that you designed the cover sleeves for The Jesus And Mary Chain’s “Happy When It Rains” and “April Skies” single – Was that your earliest involvement with your brothers’ band? LR: Yes it was. I’m a bit younger than William and Jim so I’d be in the background just watching them make records and do what they do. It was a big thrill to actually work with them properly though.
P&S: When did you really consciously decide you wanted to record and play music?

LR: It was never something that I had thought about to be honest. Jim had originally asked me while they were recording “Stoned And Dethroned” if I wanted to sing one of their songs for a b-side to a single and I said yes right away. Nothing happened until they were recording “Munki” and it was then that I recorded “Mo Tucker”. The intention was still to use it as a b-side, but then when everyone heard it, they all thought it was good enough to put on the album. It was then that William and Jim asked me if I wanted to record my own album – but working with them. They encouraged me to write my own lyrics, which I had never done until then. Basically, this opportunity was given to me and I took it and I’m very glad I did.

P&S: Who are your influences? Besides your brothers music, who did you listen to growing up?
LR: I listened to my brothers and what they were listening to. I had a really good musical education because of them. There was always good music playing in our house. So bands like the Velvet Underground/ The Beatles/The Pastels/Dusty Springfield were things that I was listening to from an early age. I think I’ve been influenced a lot by bands from Glasgow – particularly The Pastels/ Teenage Fanclub/Belle And Sebastian/Altered Images. I also love Blur – I adore Blur actually!
P&S: How did the deal with Chemikal Underground to release “Little Pop Rock” come about? Did you shop the LP to a lot of indie/major labels?
LR: To be honest, we didnt actively shop this record around and that’s probably down to the fact that we’re all so lazy! Part of me didnt really think anyone would be that interested in buy ing a record of the sister of The Jesus And Mary Chain. But our friend Stephen Pastel (from The Pastels) introduced us to Chemikal Underground and we realised pretty quickly that it would be a good idea to work with them. They are really professional about everything but they also really love the album and are big fans of William and Jim’s music.
P&S: How did the songwriting process for the album work? We know some of the songs were written prior to the project, but for the songs you contributed lyrics to, did you write them with Jim, William, and Ben or was the music and lyrics a collaborative effort?
LR: William was very encouraging when it came to songwriting for me. He said that I should at least have a go at writing lyrics and it’s worked out pretty good so far. I added some of my own lyrics to “K To Be Lost”, “Pastel Blue”, “TOTP”, “Can’t Stop The Rock”. The music side of things I left to William, Jim and Ben.
P&S: Since The “Little Pop Rock” LP was recorded through the course of 10 or so years, are there any plans for a follow up release in the near future?
LR: I’m not really thinking about a follow up to “Little Pop Rock” right now. As you say, this record has taken so long to record – so I want to just focus on this right now and maybe in the future I can think about doing more stuff.
P&S: We all know how Jim and William have had their differences…have You ever butted heads with either one (or both) of them (either literally or figuratively) or has your role always been primarily that of the “mediator”?

P&S: What bands or artists are you currently listening to?
LR: I’m currently listening to the Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Jarvis Cocker, Beck, Graham Coxon, Blur. I never tire of The Beatles and I play “Abbey Road” constantly.
P&S: What would you call your five all-time favorite LPs?

LR: I wont mention The JAMC here because I love all their records so i’d say….The Beatles – “Abbey Road”, The Velvet Underground And Nico, The Pastels – “Mobile Safari”, Beck – “Odelay”, Blur – “13″
P&S: What are your thoughts on the current Jesus And Mary Chain reunion? And do you plan on joining them onstage for any of the upcoming festival appearances?
LR: I think it’s great. I never thought it would ever happen but now it has, I’m all for it. I went to see them rehearse last month when they were both in london and it made me feel a bit emotional! They sounded really brilliant as well. My husband James and I are going to see them play in july in Spain so I’m looking froward to that.
P&S: Well Linda best of luck with the worldwide release of “Little Pop Rock’again thanks so much for taking the time to spend with us – looking forward to more in the future!
LR: thanks for your support!!!!

In Memory of "Big Daddy Roth", Ed Roth...

This is a piece taken from the work of "Big Daddy" Ed Roth. In my life he was an inspiration to no end. His art showed me a few things startin at around age 10. First was "Cars are cool", Motors are cool too but big motors are cooler and bigger motors in cars being driven by monsters were way-cool. He also taught me boobies were beautiful, asses too and legs an stuff. He taught me many other things too. He taught me I could be tough and cool if I had a big motor, a fine lady with ... and learnt how to be a freakin Monster.

Cool, Huh???

Big Daddy Rest in Peace, April 4, 2001

Next is some Wiki stuff on him (only cause they write betterin me). The link to the full page is [HERE]

"Big Daddy" Ed Roth (March 4, 1932 – April 4, 2001) was an artist and cartoonist who created the hot-rod icon Rat Fink and other extreme characters. As a custom car builder, Roth was a key figure in Southern California's Kustom Kulture and hot-rod movement of the 1960s. He grew up in Bell, California, attending Bell High School, where his classes included auto shop and art.

Career:

Roth is best known for his grotesque caricatures — typified by Rat Fink — depicting imaginative, out-sized monstrosities driving representations of the hot rods that he and his contemporaries built. Although DetroitStanley Mouse (Miller) is credited with creating the so-called "Monster Hot Rod" art form, Roth is certainly the individual who popularized it. Roth is less well known for his innovative work in turning hot rodding from crude backyard engineering, where performance was the bottom line, into a refined art form where aesthetics were equally important, breaking new ground with fiberglass bodywork. native
In the 1960s, plastic models of many of Roth's cars, as well as models of Rat Fink and other whimsical creatures created by Roth, were marketed by the Revell model company.
Numerous artists were associated with Roth, including painter Robert Williams, Rat Fink Comix artist R.K. Sloane and Steve Fiorilla, who illustrated Roth's catalogs.
Roth was active in the field of counterculture art and hot-rodding his entire adult life. At the time of his death in 2001, he was working on an innovative hot-rod project involving a compact car planned as a radical departure from the dominant "tuner" performance modification style. In his later years, Roth's telephone number was listed in the directory, and he encouraged fans to contact him: he was always generous with his time and enthusiasm.
A Roth custom feared lost for many years was the subject of a number of articles in automotive enthusiast magazines in the summer of 2008. The Orbitron, built in 1964, was discovered in Mexico in late 2007. The car, in dilapidated, inoperative condition, had been parked for quite some time in front of an adult bookstore in Ciudad Juárez. The owners of the shop were also the owners of the car. It was purchased by Michael Lightbourn, an American auto restorer who did extensive business in Mexico and who in turn repatriated the car to the United States. The Orbitron has since been restored to its original condition by Beau Boeckmann.

Go look him up. He's a great artist.

Dobie Gray... Drift Away

It was springtime 1973, long walks to school, most of it through the woods alone and a very confusing time for a kid my age.

I remember listening to this on my crappy old AM radio and it was BEAUTIFUL!

Thank You Mister Dobie Gray Sir for the smiles then and now.
