Bill Bojangles Robinson and Shirley Temple

I posted Sammy Davis, that leads into Bill Robinson and that leads to Shirley Temple. I wonder where Shirley Temple will lead off to....

Tribute post:

Sammy Davis Jr (Mr BoJangles - Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (1878-1949)")

Sammy Davis Jr Mr. Bojangles
Bill "Bojangles" Robinson (1878-1949)
Dancer
Born in Richmond, Virginia, Bill Robinson began dancing in local saloons at the age of six. He became a popular fixture on the vaudeville circuit just two years after that. While still a child, he was given the nickname "Bojangles," although even Robinson himself was unsure of the origin of that moniker.

In 1905, Robinson forged a partnership—lifelong, it turned out—with agent Marty Forkins, who got the dancer a golden opportunity: the chance to develop a solo act. (African-American dancers of the time appeared exclusively in pairs.) Robinson made the most of it, touring the United States and Europe until the late 1920s.

Robinson took up residence in Harlem in 1928. That was the year he landed a role in the all-black musical revue Blackbirds of 1928, which was staged by a white producer for white audiences. Robinson's popularity soared.

Tap-dancing high on his toes and moving his upper body with understated grace, Robinson displayed a lightness and finesse never seen before. He shunned the frantic style of his predecessors for a more elegant, precise form of tap.

Robinson's talent gave him entrée to two worlds—white entertainment and black—yet he was never completely accepted in either one. White audiences adored the films in which he co-starred with Shirley Temple or Will Rogers, but his commercially successful roles were modeled on racist stereotypes, such as that of the genial black servant. Though artistically satisfying, his few forays into black films—notably Harlem Is Heaven—didn't make him much money.

Robinson began performing at Harlem's Cotton Club in the mid-1930s. In 1939, he joined the Broadway cast of an African-American musical called Hot Mikado. The white establishment, meanwhile, cemented his celebrity status by naming him honorary mayor of Harlem—and mascot of the New York Giants baseball team. Many prominent African Americans, however, found these distinctions to be demeaning and paternalistic.

Despite the racial tension that dogged his career, Robinson revolutionized his art, conquered both stage and screen, and triumphed as a Harlem legend.

Hint-hint-hint...

Wrath of the 1337 King (Movie)

This guy is odd beyond all ends. I had a few laughs watching it, missed most of it. The language can be a little harsh at times but it's all in moderation. No nudity in it so that parts safe. I'f anything I'd recommend it just because it's definately off the wall, light enough for a few laughs and completely original.

Read more on Tori Amos.

Read Wiki's page on her [here], I am amazed at what she has done.

Little bit of the page: "In June 1994, Amos co-founded RAINN, The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, a toll-free help line in the US connecting callers with their local rape crisis center. Amos, herself a victim of sexual assault,[13] was seen as unlocking the silence of her assault through her music; thus "Unlock the Silence" went on to become a year-long campaign for RAINN when Amos became a national spokesperson for the organization. By the summer of 2006, RAINN had received its one millionth caller[14] and the organization's success has led to it ranking in "America's 100 Best Charities" by Worth, and one of the "Top 10 Best Charities" by Marie Claire.[15] RAINN has played an active role in urging Congress to fund programs relating to sexual assault,[16] including getting legislation passed for requiring sex offender registries in all states,[17] and most recently to calling on Congress to investigate allegations of misconduct by contractors in Iraq.[18]"

Why do they lie like this when a little girl died a few days ago before this?

I'm sorry but I was not clear in my first posting of this story. I got this from Yahoo News and their opening title was "First death in U.S. from Swine Flu." I am truly sorry anyone should have to go through anything like this, but I am also worried about media coverage and the honesty of our news sources.

This is bad and it breaks my heart to hear this but the little girl in New Mexico counts too...

Relatives grieve for Texas woman with flu who died

HARLINGEN, Texas – This week should have been a joyous time for Judy Trunnell, a 33-year-old schoolteacher who had just given birth to a healthy baby girl.

But the friends and relatives whose cars lined the quiet street in front of her home in a quiet subdivision Tuesday instead were mourning her, the first American with swine flu to die.

"We're grieving now," said a woman with tear-streaked eyes who declined to give her name.

In Maryland, her cousin told WMAR-TV in Baltimore that Trunnell had died after spending two weeks in the hospital. She slipped into a coma, and her baby was delivered by Cesarean section, Mario Zamora said.

"She was just a beautiful person, warm at heart. She worked with disabled children as a teacher," Zamora said. "Those that knew her will always remember her."

Texas health officials stopped short of saying that swine flu caused Trunnell's death. State health department spokeswoman Carrie Williams said the schoolteacher had "chronic underlying health conditions" but wouldn't give any more details.

She died early Tuesday after being hospitalized since April 19, said Leonel Lopez, Cameron County epidemiologist.

Trunnell's death came as life in the areas hardest hit by the outbreak began returning to normal. In Mexico, where the current strain is thought to have originated, stores, restaurants and factories were officially allowed to reopen Tuesday. And U.S. health officials withdrew their recommendation that schools with suspected swine flu cases shut down for two weeks.

The only other swine flu death in the U.S. was that of a Mexico City toddler who also had other health problems and had been visiting relatives in Brownsville, near Harlingen. He died last week at a Houston children's hospital.

There have been 29 other confirmed swine flu deaths, all in Mexico. Hundreds of cases of the disease have been confirmed in several countries, but mostly in Mexico and the U.S.

Trunnell was from Harlingen, a city of about 63,000 near the U.S.-Mexico border, and taught in the Mercedes Independent School District about 15 miles west of her hometown.

She was first seen by a physician April 14 and was hospitalized on the April 19. Zamora said she had complained of difficulty breathing and was put on life support.

Doctors knew she had a flu when she came in, but did not know what kind, Lopez said. The area is undergoing a Type A influenza epidemic right now, and swine flu is one variety of that, he said. She was confirmed to have swine flu shortly before she died, he said.

Dr. Joseph McCormick, regional dean of the University of Texas School of Public Health's Brownsville campus, said the woman was extremely ill when she was hospitalized.

Mercedes school district officials announced that it would close its schools for the rest of the week and reopen Monday.

Danzig post

Danzig is an American rock band, formed in 1987 in Lodi, New Jersey. The band serves as a musical outlet for singer/composer Glenn Danzig. Danzig can be seen as the third stage in Glenn Danzig's musical career, preceded by the horror punk bands The Misfits and Samhain. They primarily play in a heavy metal style that is largely influenced by the early sound of Black Sabbath, and fuses dark lyrics and imagery with blues-rock influences. <--- taken from Wiki's page [here]

All I know is Glenn Danzig has a very potent voice that hits hard and heavy.

How to create decorative borders in 4 minutes

I can't express enough how important it is for you to spend healthy, quality time with the younger ones teaching them and learning with them things like cooking, crafts, reading "important" things and appreciating art and music.
They are going to learn anyway. Sometimes all they do is learn and that cannot be stopped. You can however mosey on in and snag a part of that learning and influence them a little. If they find the reward in learning honest and quality of life essentials it will guide them at least in part to continue on that path.

Where I came from parents didn't give a shit and we taught ourselves. I don't want to tell you what we taught ourselves but now of the age of 48 most of my friends are dead and not one of them from war.

Please take some time out to teach something healthy, even though it might seem bothersome at first it's something that doesn't wash off and they will never forget those times....

"In the latest project demonstration brought to you by The Crafts Channel, Corinne Bradd shows how to transform cards, tags and notebooks using this fantastic decorative border technique. Wer kennt den Weg , I walk the line. (Johnny Cash)

Wer kennt den Weg

“I Walk the Line”

Music: Johnny Cash

Jethro Tull...

Mister Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull band is one crazy son of a bitch. The man is Mid evil England in it's entirety. He sings with his eyes even. Beyond that his writings go deeper than you might notice upon first hearing them.

Cheap day return is about him visiting his very ill father, seeing him poorly cared for and the nurse wanted his autograph... "What a Laugh!"

Locomotive breath I think is about the insanity of feelings. Where they can take you and how one last consideration can change things for the better...

Aqualung is just plain failure.

Here are some vids too for this post. I hope you likes em.

Cheap day return, with Mother Goose,

Aqualung,

MP3 titles are download links if you wanna saves em, Ok?

Gary Glitter, mixed post

From older readings on this guy he had (at one time) been credited for creating the T-Rex, David Bowie, Slade, Mott the Hoople and pretty much the whole glamor rock era. Call you as you see it but I don't see that in him at all. What I see is an Elvis Presley act without the love song aspects (as much). I posted these songs because the theme song for all Boston Bruins games was Rock & Roll Pt 2 and that's the only part of a Boston Bruins game I ever wasted time on watching, the opening that is.

Garry Glitter found fame in a number of other ways also. For that reason I'm not going to compliment him.

I just want to return back to the beginning of the subject and say that I'm from Boston area and I grew up with that song being played in the beginning of every Bruins game and on every commercial advertising tickets to a game. Other than that he would NOT be posted here....

Do you wanna touch

Tori Amos

I just listened to Silent all these years for probably the 1,000th time. Something was different about it this time though. It was and always has been a good song but this time it was fantastic! I came out of the bath to listen to it closer and then I wanted to hear it completely from the beginning.I rewound it and played it again and I think that this was the first time I ever really heard the beauty of her voice and the flawlessness of her talent as an artist...

I figured I'd try and share it with you. God Bless...

"Tori Amos performs her hit single "Silent All These Years" from her 1992 release Little Earthquakes live in the studios of 89.3 The Current."

My comment: "I hear every word and although Tori Amos is beautiful beyond even the realm of a mans dreams I am so-so glad I have never met her. I hear her words and I see that I'm not even close to being in her league. That woman cuts with both edges of the knife. Don't get me wrong and suppose I'm implying that I don't admire her, because I do. I love her even for her talent, but she's by far sharper than I ever will be and along with that she's equivalent to a narcotic that would completely take me body, heart & soul."
Another version featuring Leonard Cohen...

Awesome Combo!

Pore defensless police officers....

273 German police injured in May Day riots <---- LOL, read the story. They WERE the violence!!!

A woman takes a picture of the Finance Ministry in Berlin, Saturday May 2, 2009, AP – A woman takes a picture of the Finance Ministry in Berlin, Saturday May 2, 2009, after it was attacked …

BERLIN – More than 270 police officers were injured in this year's May Day riots in the German capital, prompting criticism Saturday of Berlin security officials and calls for more officers.

Though the majority of the 273 officers suffered only minor injuries Friday, 14 were badly enough hurt that they will need to take time off work, said Berlin police chief Dieter Glietsch. He did not have more specifics.

In all, 5,800 police officers were on hand to try to keep a lid on the violence that has become a yearly ritual in Berlin. They used tear gas, pepper spray and water cannon as some of the roughly 5,000 leftist demonstrators, marching under the motto "capitalism is war and crisis," threw stones and bottles. <--- "LOL, 5,800 heavy armed cops against 5,000 relatively unarmed and untrained in situations of this kind... talk about a fukkin set-up!!! I thought this only happened in Amerikkka."

Dozens of demonstrators were injured but there were no exact figures; 289 were arrested. A bank and a fire station had windows broken.

This year's demonstrations turned violent earlier than in previous years, leading to more injuries and arrests. Last year, 112 police officers were hurt and 150 demonstrators arrested.

Rainer Wendt, chairman of one of Germany's national police unions, criticized Berlin interior minister Erhart Koerting's handling of the operation, saying protesters were allowed too much time to get out of hand and urging that a "no tolerance" policy be adopted in the future.

"Whoever throws a stone or wears a mask must be immediately taken out of play," he told the Neuen Osnabruecker Zeitung newspaper.

Koerting condemned the violence, but said overall the police response could be considered a success.

"The deployment concept saw many different measures of violence prevention available, which the police quickly and effectively were able to use when it came to criminal acts," he said.

Konrad Freiberg, the head of Germany's other major police union, said forces had been cut back by 10,000 officers across the country since 2000, making it difficult to muster enough police for major confrontations.

"On days like May 1 we are on the fringes of our capacity," he told Bild newspaper. "This is a political issue... The state must recruit more police despite the economic crisis."

Gotta love propaganda but truth is they took blow torches to a barb-q and they planned the ends to meet the means. It's just Bullshit!
