King Arthur Revisited:
Later version showing representation of the 13 kingdoms in his domain...
Writers and historians have long been divided on the truth of the many different tellings of the stories of Arthur, the great Welsh king of Britain. Although many now think that there is some truth underlying the widely varying accounts, the hard facts surrounding Arthur's reign are almost completely obscured in a mist of myths and legends. Like all legends, these tales evolved over many centuries. Their telling and retelling over those years, while it may have left them somewhat lacking in truth, has emphasized and expanded their most compelling parts, making the Arthurian saga as glorious and prolific a body of stories as any, in fact or fiction.
Arthur’s name is derived from either the Celtic artos viros or the Scandinavian Arndorr. In its Celtic version the name means "bear man. "In this case it is of nickname origin and would have been bestowed upon someone who possessed strength like that of a bear, or who was associated with bears in another way, such as skill at hunting them. By its Scandinavian origin, the name is patronymic and derived from the word arn, meaning "eagle," and the name Porr, a reference to an ancient Scandinavian god of thunder.
Arthur was the illegitimate son of King Uther Pendragon and a woman named Igraine. To protect the secret of his son's birth, The King entrusted the baby to the sorcerer Merlin, who in turn left the young prince to be raised by a knight named Ector. Arthur was unaware of his noble lineage and grew up believing Ector was his father.
When Arthur was yet a young man, Pendragon died, leaving no legitimate heir. The most popular accounts tell that at this time Merlin placed a sword in a stone and proclaimed that whoever pulled it out was the rightful heir to the throne. Arthur is said to have drawn. the sword out and been crowned King of all England.
While Arthur is almost always referred to as a king, it is unclear whether he was actually a king in the traditional sense or really more like a duke who ruled the province of Britain on behalf of the Romans. Some stories describe Arthur’s relationship with the Romans as cooperative, while others indicate that he made war on them and won Britain by force from the Emperor Lucius. Still other versions of the stories indicate that he was a chieftain who only became a king in the
lore that developed in the years after his death.
Arthur took the Lady Guinevere as his queen, and, by at least one account, received his famous round table as a dowry from her father. It is told that the king and queen begat numerous legitimate sons and daughters, and that Arthur had more children by mistresses such as
Morgan Le Fay, Morgause (his half-sister by whom he fathered Sir Mordred, and others.
Most accounts indicate that the legendary king lived in the 6th century, but the exact dates of his life and reign are impossible to determine. Arthur was dealt his final blow at Camlann, now known as the Salisbury plain, after slaying Sir Mordred, who had rebelled against him while he was fighting Sir Lancelot in France. Some accounts name locations in Glastonbury, Cornwall, and Scotland as Arthur's gravesite. Others, however, claim that the great king was not buried, but as he lay critically wounded was carried by a magical boat into the Celtic paradise of Avalon. Some who believe the latter version still await his return.
"Anyway", I'm a Rice or a Rees or a Rhys and for some reason my family coat of arms is connected with King Arthur's
Here's my family badge...
Further note: The Britains were known commonly as the
fiercest warriors the world has ever known. They lived
in tribal clusters but stood against nations and armies.
They also were known to have the most beautiful women
ever known to exist. I guess to fight to protect them
would explain why they were known to fight so hard.
Lady Guinevere
Arthur's barons wanted him to find a wife. Arthur wanted Guinevere, King Leodegrance's daughter of the land of Cameliard to become his wife, but Merlin warned him that Guinevere would betray his love for a close friend. erlin asked to investigate Guinevere, and Arthur agreed. When Leodegrance met Merlin, he was overjoyed with the wedding proposal and gave the Round Table as a wedding gift. This had been made long before by Merlin, when serving Uther Pendragon, to symbolise the roundness of the world. |

This means they don't like us Folks....
Above: A MEU meeting.
MECCA—The 14 democratic member nations of the Middle Eastern Union unanimously voted to declare war on the U.S. Monday, calling the North American country a "dangerous rogue state that must be contained."
"The United States of America has repeatedly violated international law and committed human-rights abuses at home and abroad," MEU President Mohamed Rajib said at a Monday security-council meeting. "MEU weapons inspectors have confirmed that the U.S. continues to pursue their illegal ununhexium-weapons program. Our attempts to bring about change through diplomatic means have repeatedly failed. Now, we are forced to take military action."
The MEU, formed in the wake of the 2042 Saudi Arabian revolution, is modeled on the Enlightenment ideal of the democratic republic and makes every attempt to avoid war even as it pursues an agenda of encouraging self-rule throughout the world. The decision to invade America marks the first military action of the MEU.
Rajib said that, unless the U.S. ends its "unlawful and tyrannical" occupation of northern Africa in seven days, the governments of Iraq, Iran, Jordan, and Muhammad Arabia will begin deploying aero-troops to international tropospace over America's Brand-New England region.
The U.S.'s occupation of 31 nations around the world and last month's vicious, unprompted military attack on Buenos Aires were two of the 41 examples of "unabated aggression" listed in the MEU's declaration of war.
"Today we send a strong and clear message to America," Syrian representative Rashid Qu'rama said. "Your arrogant, imperial, unilateral attitude will not prevail."
The MEU first imposed sanctions against the U.S. in February 2054, demanding that the country pull troops from Antarctica and put an end to its credit trading in the troubled Wilkes Land region.
Iraqi President Hamal Hamoodi said that MEU member nations held extensive public forums before its congress voted to declare war.
"When making such serious choices, we must remain true to the democratic ideals we wish to protect," Hamoodi said. "We have received a mandate from our people to address the U.S.'s threat to democratic society everywhere. The voice of the Arab people will ring out as a beacon of freedom and hope to the world."
Along with the declaration of war, the MEU sent a message to the American people.
"To the oppressed, silenced U.S. citizens—help is on the way," Rajib said. "Liberty is on the march. Be assured: At the end of a long tunnel shines the light of freedom."
According to Rajib, the MEU will provide extensive humanitarian and robotitarian aid to the citizens of the U.S., and has already begun moving stockpiles of breakfast, lunch, and dinner pills to the marijuana-producing regions of Mexico, Canada, and Quebec.
Mexico, Canada, and Quebec have stated they are sympathetic to the MEU's goals but must remain neutral for the protection of their own people. It is likely, however, that they will host many refugees, should the U.S. turn against its people.

ACLU read...
Earlier today, President Obama delivered a major speech on torture, Guantánamo Bay, and military commissions.
That speech and the national debate it will spark in the weeks ahead wouldn't be happening without you.
Without your energy, your commitment to principle, and your determination to keep America safe and free, there would be no national conversation about ending policies and practices that defy the Constitution and undermine the rule of law.
We were pleased to hear President Obama speak so movingly about respect for the Constitution, about the critical importance of due process, and about the horrible violation of American values that torture represents.
We do, however, strongly disagree with the president that modifying Bush-era military commissions can solve their basic injustice. Any system designed to produce a pre-ordained outcome -- rather than a free and fair trial -- is irreparably unjust.
Furthermore, creating a system of indefinite detention -- holding detainees for years without facing charges -- is a fundamental violation of the Constitution.
In the debate the president set in motion today, you can count on the ACLU to hold firm in defense of core principles. With you by our side, we will keep working to totally dismantle the Bush system of injustice and to create an America we can be proud of again.
Sincerely,
Anthony D. Romero

Return To Forever - Chick's Solo
Buy a vid or two too. I know I will. I can't believe the stuff they posted and it's all prime quality.
Return To Forever were at the forefront of jazz/rock fusion in the seventies and like their contemporaries Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra were formed by a former Miles Davis sideman, in this case the great Chick Corea. Return To Forever hit their commercial and artistic peak with a string of albums in the mid-seventies featuring the line-up of Chick Corea on keyboards, Stanley Clarke on bass, Al Di Meola on guitar and Lenny White on drums. In 2008 this classic line-up reunited for their first tour in 25 years and proved that their musicianship and the chemistry within the band were as strong as ever. This concert was filmed at Montreux in July 2008 with the bonus tracks being filmed in Clearwater, Florida later the same month.

Mister Ray Charles!
He's got more style than thirty men and he plays so softly... This is a great song.
"Ray Charles was one of the true pioneers of soul music. Born in Georgia in 1930 he was one of the first performers to mix gospel, R & B and jazz to create a new form of black pop music that would come to be known as soul. His voice and delivery were strikingly different and instantly recognisable. He had his first hits in the early 50's and was still hitting the charts into the 21st century. His death in June 2004 from liver disease was front page news around the world.
This concert was filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 19, 1997 and features Ray Charles and his orchestra, led by sax player Al Jackson, and of course The Raelettes.
The full performance is available on the Eagle Vision DVD "Live at Montreux 1997", out now.

Letter to Tori Amos
I'm writing this letter to you and just putting it out there with acceptance there is only a fraction of a slight chance you will ever see it. Anyway here goes....
Topic???
Thank you for never meeting me. It is true yer beautiful beyond common measure. You sing like a fantasy of a fantasy in a dream and I do love redheads but beyond that I am oh so grateful you have never met me, never will and will never own me.
I look and listen to you and you are fantastic. Almost a drug and I become addicted easily. There are still a few drugs I have never tried for fear of being owned by them. You seem to fit in that category quite comfortably.
On the other hand though. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. I know you must have worked hard to attain the level of preciseness and develop the quality of your art. And think of how you inspire. I'm sure many will follow you, learn to play the piano and be comforted in their efforts by seeing and hearing what you have produced.
Thanks again for not ever breakin my heart Hon.
Peace,,,

Gorrillaz Demon days live at the Appollo in New York
Next up.... "Thousands beaten, raped in Irish reform schools"
DUBLIN – A fiercely debated, long-delayed investigation into Ireland's Roman Catholic-run institutions says priests and nuns terrorized thousands of boys and girls in workhouse-style schools for decades — and government inspectors failed to stop the chronic beatings, rapes and humiliation.
Nine years in the making, Wednesday's 2,600-page report sides almost completely with the horrific reports of abuse from former students sent to more than 250 church-run, mostly residential institutions.
It concluded that church officials always shielded their orders' pedophiles from arrest to protect their own reputations and, according to documents uncovered in the Vatican, knew that many pedophiles were serial attackers.
The commission said overwhelming, consistent testimony from still-traumatized men and women, now in their 50s to 80s, had demonstrated beyond a doubt that the entire system treated children more like prison inmates and slaves than people with legal rights and human potential.
"A climate of fear, created by pervasive, excessive and arbitrary punishment, permeated most of the institutions and all those run for boys. Children lived with the daily terror of not knowing where the next beating was coming from," the final report of Ireland's Commission to Inquire Into Child Abuse concluded.
More than 30,000 children deemed to be petty thieves, truants or from dysfunctional families — a category that often included unmarried mothers — were sent to Ireland's austere network of industrial schools, reformatories, orphanages and hostels from the 1930s until the last church-run facilities shut in the 1990s.
The report, unveiled by High Court Justice Sean Ryan, found that molestation and rape were "endemic" in boys' facilities, chiefly run by the Christian Brothers order, and supervisors pursued policies that increased the danger. Girls supervised by orders of nuns, chiefly the Sisters of Mercy, suffered much less sexual abuse but frequent assaults and humiliation designed to make them feel worthless.
"In some schools a high level of ritualized beating was routine. ... Girls were struck with implements designed to maximize pain and were struck on all parts of the body," the report said. "Personal and family denigration was widespread."
Victims of the system have long demanded that the truth of their experiences be documented and made public, so that children in Ireland never endure such suffering again.
But most leaders of religious orders have rejected the allegations as exaggerations and lies, and testified to the commission that any abuses were the responsibility of often long-dead individuals.
The report proposed 21 ways the government could recognize past wrongs, including building a permanent memorial, providing counseling and education to victims and improving Ireland's current child protection services.
But its findings will not be used for criminal prosecutions — in part because the Christian Brothers successfully sued the commission in 2004 to keep the identities of all of its members, dead or alive, unnamed in the report. No real names, whether of victims or perpetrators, appear in the final document.
Irish church leaders and religious orders all declined to comment Wednesday, citing the need to read the massive document first. The Vatican also declined to comment.
The Irish government already has funded a parallel compensation system that has paid 12,000 abuse victims an average of euro65,000 ($90,000). About 2,000 claims remain outstanding.
Victims receive the payouts only if they waive their rights to sue the state and the church. Hundreds have rejected that condition and taken their abusers and those church employers to court.
Wednesday's report said children had no safe way to tell authorities about the assaults they were suffering, particularly the sexual aggression from church officials and older inmates in boys' institutions.
"The management did not listen to or believe children when they complained of the activities of some of the men who had responsibility for their care," the commission found. "At best, the abusers were moved, but nothing was done about the harm done to the child. At worst, the child was blamed and seen as corrupted by the sexual activity, and was punished severely."
The commission dismissed as implausible a central defense of the religious orders — that, in bygone days, people did not recognize the sexual abuse of a child as a criminal offense, but rather as a sin that required repentance.
In their testimony, religious orders typically cited this as the principal reason why sex-predator priests and brothers were sheltered within the system and moved to new posts where they could still maintain daily contact with children.
But the commission said its fact-finding — which included unearthing decades-old church files, chiefly stored in the Vatican, on scores of unreported abuse cases from Ireland's industrial schools — demonstrated that officials understood exactly what was at stake: their own reputations.
It cited numerous examples where school managers told police about child abusers who were not church officials — but never did when one of their own had committed the crime.
"Contrary to the congregations' claims that the recidivist nature of sexual offending was not understood, it is clear from the documented cases that they were aware of the propensity for abusers to re-abuse," it said.
Religious orders were chiefly concerned about preventing scandal, not the danger to children, it said.
The commission also condemned Ireland's Education Department for aiding the abusive culture through infrequent, toothless inspections that deferred to church authority.
Inspectors were supposed to restrict the use of corporal punishment and make sure the children were adequately fed, clothed and educated — but the report called those inspections "fundamentally flawed."
It said a lone inspector was responsible for monitoring more than 50 industrial schools, schools were told about the visits in advance and inspectors rarely talked to the children.
Wednesday's report also highlighted the rarity of human kindness in the institutions.
"A word of consideration or encouragement, or an act of sympathy or understanding, had a profound effect. Adults in their 60s and 70s recalled seemingly insignificant events that had remained with them all their lives," the report said.
"Often the act of kindness, recalled in such a positive light, arose from the simple fact that the staff member had not given a beating when one was expected." <---- What the F**K?

Stranglehold, Mister Ted Nugent!
[Grab file]
Louis Armstrong , Well Hello Dolly...
and...
I "almost" met Dolly Parton once I think in 1988 at the Emancipation Day Celebration at Roger Williams Park & Zoo. We were walking through the rose garden and Dolly Parton was walking behind me. It was starting to get to me because she deserved her privacy but I really wanted just to look at her for a second. Decisions were made and I did a half turn, dropped to one knee stretched arms out and started whistling Hello Dolly, but only for a few seconds. I quickly got back up and walked on without bothering her but is was a success. I did get to see her smile and she smiled very deeply. It was sweet and is a sweet memory...
Why Teens are Lousy at Chores:
Finally researchers have come up with a reason other than pure laziness for why teenagers can't shower and brush their teeth or unload the dishwasher and wipe down the counter.
Blame it on "cognitive limitations." Their brains can't multitask as well as those of the taskmasters.
Trust, however, that they'll grow out of it.
The part of the brain responsible for multitasking continues to develop until late adolescence, with cells making connections even after some children are old enough to drive, according to a new study in the May/June issue of the journal Child Development.
The frontal cortex, which starts just behind the eyes and goes back almost to the ears, figures out (or doesn't) what to do when a person is asked to juggle multiple pieces of information. Imagine, then, how "make your bed and bring the laundry down" might befuddle a 13-year-old.
In one of the study's tests, subjects between ages 9 and 20 were given multiple pieces of information, then asked to re-order the information to formulate an accurate response to a question. In another of several tests, they were asked to find hidden items using a high degree of strategic thinking.
The ability to remember multiple bits of information developed through age 13 to 15, the study found. But strategic self-organized thinking, the type that demands a high level of multi-tasking skill, continues to develop until ages 16 to 17.
The notion is not entirely new. Brain imaging has suggested as much.
"Our findings lend behavioral support to that work and indicate that the frontal lobe is continuing to develop until late adolescence in a manner that depends upon the complexity of the task that is being demanded," said lead researcher Monica Luciana, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Minnesota.
Unfortunately the study did not reveal any solution to parents at their wits' end over the problem. But Luciana did offer this advice:
"We need to keep their cognitive limitations in mind, especially when adolescents are confronted with demanding situations in the classroom, at home, or in social gatherings."
