Tabloids and critics called them a mock immitation Beatles band with no talent only thriving off of the Beatles sound.
This was in 1972. We took our music seriously then and no mock band was allowed, shame though because they were a great band.
I heard once that George Harrison felt bad about it. I think it was in a discussion about the band "The Cars" during an interview. George Harrison also trained (I think the 15 year old bass player) for the Cars, and he was deeply involved in their beginnings.
