As a kid we had what was called the generation gap.
It was bullshit but it did make a few things more difficult for us to enjoy.
One of those things was music.
On Saturday nights they had a few hours of concert type shows on TV, this started at 11:00 PM with Burt Sugarman’s Midnight Special , next there was another concert series (name escapes me but not as good as the others) and then at 1:00 there was Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert.
For me to watch these I had to take the shittiest TV outside and put it on a picnic table and power it off an extension cord. I wasn’t allowed to have it up too loud and it didn’t matter if it was a hot summer night or snowing out in December, that was the only way for me to watch it and I did it that way the first couple of years.
Somehow though even though I knew I was missing a lot I also knew I was missing nothing, because eventually I knew I’d see everything I missed seeing over all that bullshit anyway.
I can’t find much Don Kirshners Rock Concert, but here’s some of the best parts of Midnight Special.
