Mirror Lake “On the good side”.

I posted this as a share for all those Mirror Lakers out there & Marc B.
Marc comes from Mirror Lake too, but he’s on the Wrentham side an that aint the good side.
Wrentham side aint all that bad though, cause we let em come down to our good side and we let them hang out with us on the good side…

BTW: Lea an Jullianne were from the good side too, Carol lived on the good side for a while. I was on the good side until they chased me out and beer always tasted better when you drank it on the good side.

These are from a couple of frames I’m making for my website, I’m only posting them here to see if it works doing it that way and to see what it looks like after copy/pasting the lazy way.
I’m not even sure how this will work, but if it works well the games and links are good.

Blondes Creations has a shit-load of plugins and filters all arrainged by letter.

Bright Hub offers what they call the 10 best Free Paint Shop Pro Plugins.

Mehdi's Free Plugins work on both Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. I consider these to be some of the most used by myself and others. He offers Eraser Genuine for erasing only a chosen range of colors, and a Projection Filter to change the angle of view from different perspectives, and Absolute color filter to change the colors of some or all in an image. All those are free along with about 25 others.

From Freeware:
CloneZilla (a partition and disk imaging/cloning program).

That's Not in my American History Book - Thomas Ayres (Review)

This is a little sample of what's contained inside this book. I chose this section because it was the first I read when glancing through the book and I figured that it was as good as any to share. 


First though, a little on the Author. The first part is a quote from the back cover:

 "Thomas Ayres, a veteran investigative reporter and award-winning columnist has written for The Dallas Times' quarterly publication Columbiad, and many other publications. He lives in Jonesboro, Lousiana"

My opinion of him is that he's a very witty and talented writer. This book is well worth the purchasing price and it is one of the few books that I would replace if ever lost or damaged just to have a copy laying around to share some good readin with friends as they stop by.

Dishonorable Opponent

    Politics and political mudslinging have been around almost from the day prehistoric man dis­ covered mud. However, over the past two cen­turies American politicians have managed to re­fine the art-sometimes elevating it to creative heights, but more often dragging it to bottomless lows.

     In the creative category, one of the strangest campaigns ever waged was the one by George Smathers against Claude Pepper for the U.S. Senate in Florida in 1950. In his campaign speeches, Smathers began referring to Pepper as "a known extrovert." He spat out the words with such disdain, many in his audiences as­sumed the worst of Pepper. While Pepper was trying to figure out how to respond, Smathers revealed that his opponent's sister was "a thespian." He then accused Pepper's brother of being "a practicing homo sapiens." He charged that while attending college, Pepper "matriculated on campus," and that he "engaged in celibacy" before he was married.

     Smathers won the election.

      If that was the high point of political creativity, the low had to take place in Louisiana in 1932, when Earl Long called a political enemy "A big-bellied, lily-livered liar and the crookedest man who ever lived." The reference was to his brother, Huey Long. On an­other occasion, Earl became so enraged at his brother he called him a son of a bitch before fully analyzing the implication. 

     A favorite Earl Long tactic was to follow an opponent around and inspire impromptu debate by heckling from the audience. Not only did it save money, it allowed Earl to control the agenda for dis­cussion. However, on one occasion the practice backfired. Huey, then seeking election as a U.S. senator, was telling a large crowd what he had done for the people of Louisiana when Earl's shrill 'Dice came from the crowd. 

     "I know one person you ain't done nothin' for-your brother!"

How to make Ice Cream in a Baggie.

Summers over and the little monsters are going to be spending more time around the house whining "I'm bored" and "Waa~Waa, there's nothing to do".


Well here's a quick and easy little fun thing you can do with em to shut em up and they'll even have some fun doing it (don't tell them this but it's kinda educational too).

Make Ice Cream in a Baggie

Freezing Point Depression and Colligative Properties

                         Materials

• 1/2 cup milk
• 1/2 cup whipping cream (heavy cream)
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1/4 teaspoon vanilla or vanilla flavoring (vanillin)
• 1/2 to 3/4 cup sodium chloride (NaCl) as table salt or rock salt
• 2 cups ice
• 1-quart Ziploc^TM bag
• 1-gallon Ziploc^TM bag
• themometer
• measuring cups and spoons
• cups and spoons for eating your treat!

Procedure

1. Add 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup whipping cream, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla to the quart ziploc^TM bag. Seal the bag securely.
2. Put 2 cups of ice into the gallon ziploc^TM bag.
3. Use a thermometer to measure and record the temperature of the ice in the gallon bag.
4. Add 1/2 to 3/4 cup salt (sodium chloride) to the bag of ice.
5. Place the sealed quart bag inside the gallon bag of ice and salt. Seal the gallon bag securely.
6. Gently rock the gallon bag from side to side. It's best to hold it by the top seal or to have gloves or a cloth between the bag and your hands because the bag will be cold enough to damage your skin.
7. Continue to rock the bag for 10-15 minutes or until the contents of the quart bag have solidified into ice cream.
8. Open the gallon bag and use the thermometer to measure and record the temperature of the ice/salt mixture.
9. Remove the quart bag, open it, serve the contents into cups with spoons and ENJOY! 

Explanation

Ice has to absorb energy in order to melt, changing the phase of water from a solid to a liquid. When you use ice to cool the ingredients for ice cream, the energy is absorbed from the ingredients and from the outside environment (like your hands, if you are holding the baggie of ice!). When you add salt to the ice, it lowers the freezing point of the ice, so even more energy has to be absorbed from the environment in order for the ice to melt. This makes the ice colder than it was before, which is how your ice cream freezes. Ideally, you would make your ice cream using 'ice cream salt', which is just salt sold as large crystals instead of the small crystals you see in table salt. The larger crystals take more time to dissolve in the water around the ice, which allows for even cooling of the ice cream.
You could use other types of salt instead of sodium chloride, but you couldn't substitute sugar for the salt because (a) sugar doesn't dissolve well in cold water and (b) sugar doesn't dissolve into multiple particles, like an ionic material such as salt. Compounds that break into two pieces upon dissolving, like NaCl breaks into Na⁺ and Cl^-, are better at lowering the freezing point than substances that don't separate into particles because the added particles disrupt the ability of the water to form crystalline ice. The more particles there are, the greater the disruption and the greater the impact on particle-dependent properties (colligative properties) like freezing point depresssion, boiling point elevation, and osmotic pressure. The salt causes the ice to absorb more energy from the environment (becoming colder), so although it lowers the point at which water will re-freeze into ice, you can't add salt to very cold ice and expect it to freeze your ice cream or de-ice a snowy sidewalk (water has to be present!). This is why NaCl isn't used to de-ice sidewalks in areas that are very cold.
